Sindri Approvals
Approvals that hold their own state. Decisions live in Sindri, the status column on your board mirrors them, and anyone can approve from an emailed link without a monday account.
Before you start
- A monday.com account, on any plan. Sindri does not require Pro or Enterprise.
- Someone with edit access to the board for the first setup. Sindri adds one status column called Approval, and a viewer account cannot add columns.
- Nothing else. There is no configuration screen to fill in, no labels to rename, and no fields to match up before the app will run.
Installing
Install the app on your account
From the monday marketplace, install Sindri Approvals. Installing does not change any board on its own.
Add the Approvals view to a board
Open the board you want approvals on. On the row of view tabs at the top, press +, choose Apps, and pick Approvals. This step is manual and only needed once per board.
Connect Sindri
The first time the queue loads it offers Connect Sindri. This is a standard monday authorisation screen; approving it lets Sindri update the status column, post updates on items and notify requesters. Until it is connected, decisions are still recorded — they simply do not reach the board.
Your first approval
Press New approval
Pick the item the request is about, then choose who decides. Approvers can be people on the board, or anyone at all by email address — an external approver needs no monday account and no seat.
Choose how the round works
A round can require everyone, or a quorum of the approvers you picked. Set that, and send.
Approvers decide
People on the board decide in the Approvals view. Everyone else gets an email with a link that opens a page with two buttons — approve, or request changes. No login, and it works on a phone.
The board keeps up
When the round completes, the Approval column changes to match, an update is posted on the item saying who decided and when, and the requester is notified.
What happens if someone edits the column by hand
Sindri puts it back, usually within a second, and posts an update on the item saying the column was changed and what the record actually says. The decision itself never changes — approvals are held in Sindri and the column mirrors them, so editing the column does not decide anything.
What each kind of monday account can do
| Account | Can do | Cannot do |
|---|---|---|
| Member or admin | Everything: create approvals, decide, re-sync the column, reconnect. | — |
| Guest | Create and decide approvals on boards they have been invited to. | Nothing specific to Sindri. |
| Viewer | Decide anything they are an approver on, and read the queue. Sindri records decisions itself, so a viewer's decision counts exactly like anyone else's. | Create an approval, because that adds a column to the board. |
| No monday account | Decide through the emailed link. | Open the board. |
The … menu
Two things live there, and both are always available rather than appearing only when something is already wrong.
- Put the status column back. Writes the selected approval's decision to the board. If the column already agrees, it says so and changes nothing.
- Reconnect Sindri. Asks monday for permission again — useful after access was revoked, or after the person who first connected it has left.
Plans and limits
Plans are counted in approvals created per billing period, not in seats. The queue always shows how many are left. When a plan is used up, creating new approvals pauses and everything already under way carries on: those approvals can still be decided, mirrored and completed. Upgrading restores creating new ones immediately.
Questions people ask
- Do approvers need a monday account?
- No. Approvers with an account decide in the view; everyone else decides through the emailed link.
- Can I lock the Approval column so nobody can change it?
- Yes, and Sindri is designed for it. Because decisions never arrive through the column, you can restrict it to nobody at all and approvals still work — including from people whose authority changes from one item to the next.
- What happens to my data if I uninstall?
- Everything Sindri holds for your account is deleted within ten days of uninstalling. Reinstalling before then keeps your history.
- Does Sindri change anything on my board without asking?
- It creates the Approval column when you create your first approval, and it writes to that column for items that have an approval. It never touches an item that has no approval of its own.
- Who appears as the author of Sindri's updates?
- Updates and column changes made by Sindri are attributed to the person who connected the app to the account. That is how monday's authorisation works and it applies to every app.
